I love dogs-always have..was raised with them, etc. Anyways last year my husband said I could recuse a dog- I saved a Jack Russel from being euthanized. 9 months later he ran away and we never found him. So I rescued a chihuahua mix a few months later. He was the perfect dog! Until he bit one my neighbor's children. It broke my heart but I had to release him to Animal control. Why am I having bad luck with dogs? I just want to provide a loving home for a pooch and I would spoil it rotten. Am I rescuing the wrong breeds? Thanks.
I will add that I have children and the jack russel jumped our fence which is why he took off.
I had no choice but to release him to animal control..he broke the skin and the parents were involved. It broke my heart and he never did that before.
The entire family was in the backyard with the Pip when he jumped and we chased him for blocks. The chi (Rusty) was in the house with me and my daughter brought in her friend and he just went after her (I had him for 6 months and he never did that and in fact I had him professionally trained 1 on 1).
I never left my dogs unsupervised..ask my neighbors they were like my children. They even went on car rides with me. Pip had never tried to jump the fence before..he just happened to do that one time and that was it..he was gone even though we were all outside. Rusty was more of a terrier/chihuahua so he was never snippy before. I don't feel irresponsible towards the care of these animals.

I have 2 dogs all of which I have rescued and now am looking for a chihuahua. I've searched countless rescue websites and researched the breed, but have been unable to find a rescue chihuahua that fills my needs. I read somewhere and was advised by a neighbor that you should not get chihuahuas from rescue because of their risky temperaments. I feel I do my part in helping rescue animals because I also give a generous donation to the shelters in my area and the petfinder charity, not to mention also volunteer whenever I can, although I feel a little bad because I'm not saving one's life :-( , but still no comments about that. I was wondering if anyone knew a good chihuahua breeder in the Northeast excluding Pennsylvania, Maine, Virginia, West Virginia, and Ohio. i don't care about the price I just want a happy healthy dog. Thanks!

I recently rescued a chihuahua that was found in the country alone and frigthened-no collar(Sat nite). Sunday afternoon she pottied and monday morning all over the vets table. Monday pm-she pooped and late that night she pottied again. The vet estimates she is 2 yrs old. She hasn't went since monday afternoon. Is this normal or is it because she is still scared? She has been eating and drinking. Also, she was left at home all day while I was at work and didn't make a mess.
Should I call the vet.
When she did go, it was when the neighbor dogs were put inside and mine and the neighbors kids were not close by. However at dark and morning, she had the same conditions and wouldn't go. Any additional suggestions on how to help her?
We did go to neighbors to see if anyone recognized her and no one did. She was found miles away from any house.
